Cyprus Coastal Assessment Project (CCAP)
The Department of Antiquities, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, announces that the research programme entitled “Cyprus Coastal Assessment Project (CCAP)” with funding from the Honor Frost Foundation has begun on 2 September 2019. The aim of the project is the mapping and documentation of the underwater and coastal archaeological sites of Cyprus. The first phase of the programme involves data gathering from the archives of the Department of Antiquities, various other government departments and public institutes, as well as the relevant archaeological literature. It also includes the analysis and evaluation of satellite imagery, topographical and bathymetric data and spatial patterns of archaeological sites as well as interviews with the coastal communities and events to enhance public awareness on the protection of underwater cultural heritage. The project’s database is developed on the basis of the data gathered and will be connected to a geographical information system (GIS) platform as a framework for gathering, managing and analysing the data related to the maritime cultural heritage of Cyprus.
