THE DESTRUCTION OF OCCUPIED CYPRUS’ CULTURAL HERITAGE


1. Ammochostos District Museum

The Ammochostos District Museum houses antiquities dating from Neolithic to Roman times (7000 P.C. - 350 A.D.) found in the Ammochostosa district. According to information from foreign journalists all the gold jewelry is missing and so is a large number of vessels.


2. Kyrenia Castle - The Shipwreck Museum

Finds from the Kyrenia shipwreck are exhibited in this museum. According to the T/C press (Ortam 18.7.85) antiquities have been stolen from this museum.

3. Kyrenia Folk Art Museum

The Kyrenia Folk Art Museum contains Cypriot folk art objects. In his testimony in 1975 Mr. Dalibard, UNESCO’s special representative in Cyprus, informed the Curator of the Cyprus Museum K. Nicolaou that all the silver objects have gone missing from this museum..
