Department Of Control

The Directorate of Control of the Ministry of Communications and Works is an essential "tool" of the Director General of the Ministry to exercise primary (mainly preventive but sometimes repressive) control at the Ministry, especially in the technical departments namely the Department of Public Works and the Department of Electrical Services. In addition, the Directoratet of Control undertakes independent powers of technical, financial and auditing departments in the Ministry of Communications and Works.

From the Decision of the Council of Ministers dated 6/4/2005, the Directorate of Control was designated as intermediary in the Ministry of Communications and Works for the projects co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union in Transportation for the programming period 2004-2006. For the current programming period 2007-2013, the Directorate of Control is responsible as intermediary for projects and related ministries beyond the Ministry of Communications and Works. Specifically, based on the Council of Ministers decision dated 4/7/2007, the Directorate assumes control as the intermediary for all major projects that may be co-financed by the European Union in the areas of environment, energy and transport and other interventions Transport for all "major infrastructure projects. Such projects are the treatment works and disposal of solid waste, renewable energy projects, the upgrading of the port of Limassol, the public transport system works on water management, water sanitation systems in communities, etc.

The new tasks that are assigned to the Directorate of Control have increased its range of activities and responsibilities. It is also important that the Directorate of Control has been employed in specialized areas, (environment and energy) in which previously was not involved.
