PERSONNEL
Today (April 2011) the Department employs 539 persons of which 157 carry out civil servants’ duties and the remaining 382 are hourly paid staff.
The staff of the Department falls into the following categories:
· 20 Mechanical Engineers (14 permanent posts, 5 posts on open-ended contracts and 1 post on fixed-term contract).
· 14 Electrical Engineers (14 permanent posts, 1 post on open-ended contract and 4 posts on fixed term contract).
· 61 Technician Engineers (57 permanent posts, 2 posts on open-ended contracts and 2 posts on fixed-term contracts)
· 8 Technicians
· 14 Chief Foremen (9 posts) and Assistant Chief Foremen (5 posts)
· 5 Accounting Officers
· 2 General Assistants
· 33 Clerical Staff (23 permanent posts, 9 posts on open-ended contract and 1 post on a 15-day contract).
· 382 Hourly-paid staff
It should be noted that the above numbers include two (2) vacant posts of Electrical Engineer and five (5) vacant posts of Technician Engineers.
The hourly-paid staff of the Department comprises mainly technicians of many specialties relating to the maintenance, repair and installation of electromechanical equipment.
The 28 permanent Engineers of the Department hold the following posts:
· Director – 1 post (held by an Electrical Engineer)
· Chief Mechanical Engineer – 1 post
· Chief Electrical Engineer – 1 post (vacant)
· Senior Mechanical Engineers – 4 posts
· Senior Electrical Engineers - 4 posts
· Mechanical Engineers - 9 posts and
· Electrical Engineers - 8 posts (1 vacant)
