Licences for Electricians

The Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services issues Certificates of Competence and Certificates of Registration to Electrical Engineers, Senior Electrical Technicians, Maintainers of electrical equipment and apparatuses, Electrical Installation Contractors and Electrical Technicians. It also issues Licences for Business Operation in electrical works.

Under the Electricity Law no one can exercise any of the above registered professions or exercise any business relating to electrical works without having a Certificate of Registration or a Licence for Business Operation in electrical works.

The Certificate of Registration expires on 31st December each year and the Licence for Business Operation in electrical works ends one year from the date of issue and therefore they have to be renewed.

The relevant application forms to acquire or renew the above mentioned certificates, which give more information concerning the supporting documents and the required fees, appear below:

    4. Application form for the issue of a Certificate of Competence of an Electrical
    Installations’ Contractor
    5. Application form for the issue of a Certificate of Competence of an Electrical
    Technician.
    6. Application form for the issue or renewal of a Certificate of Registration of
    an Electrical Engineer.
    7. Application form for the issue or renewal of a Certificate of Registration of a Senior Electrical Technician
    8. Application form for the issue or renewal of a Certificate of Registration of
    a Maintainer of electrical equipment and apparatuses
    9. Application form for the issue or renewal of a Certificate of Registration of an
    Electrical Installations Contractor
    10. Application form for the issue or renewal of a Certificate of Registration of an Electrical Technician
    11. Application form for the issue or renewal for the Operation of a Business in electrical works.

It should be noted that the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services is organizing examinations to those interested in acquiring the Certificates of Competence for Maintainers of electrical equipment and apparatuses First Class, and for Electrical Installations’ Contractors. The dates of these examinations are published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cyprus, in the local press and the website of the Department.
